Questions About Getting Started
Do I have to log in to create a CDP?
Yes, for a user to save information in NCcareers and use that information to create a CDP, they must log in prior to starting any work. Users can log in to NCcareers via the pink “Sign In” button in the top right of the screen.
Should I log in to NCcareers.org using CFNC, NCEdCloud or NCWorks credentials?
All of the above sign-on methods will allow a user to create a career development plan. However, it is recommend that students use CFNC credentials to log in so their CDP completion can be reported to administrators. Only individuals logged in with CFNC credentials will link to CFNC ProTools allowing educators to pull reports. In the near future, linkages between NCEdCloud credentials and CFNC accounts will help address this issue, but currently the functionality is not complete.
Do I have to pay for an account?
No. NCcareers.org is free. Any user can create a free account through CFNC.org or NCWorks.gov and access the system.
Questions About Completing the CDP
I have made updates to my account, but they aren’t showing up when I view my Career Plan or in the CDP Builder. Where are my updates?
Make sure you click the save button after making changes. Your browser’s cache may be slow to catch up when changes are made in the system. If you know you saved the changes, refresh the page. If you still don’t see the changes, closer the browser window and reopen it.
Different occupations from the ones I want show as my top three occupations on my CDP. How can I show my top three occupations on my CDP?
The CDP reflects the top three occupations saved in your NCcareers.org portfolio. If you saved more than three occupations, make sure to list them in priority order. To do this, click on the avatar in the top right corner and select “My Dashboard”. Go to the “Saved Items” tab on the top row. Scroll down to the “Saved Occupations” section. To rearrange the order, click and hold the arrows on the left side of each occupation and drag it to the correct position. Once you have rearranged appropriately, scroll to the bottom of the page and click “save order.”
How is the percent complete calculated on the Career Development Plan Builder?
The CDP Builder calculates percentage complete based on the following formula:
20% | Completion of any two assessments or activities |
10% | Completion of Career Goals selection and text |
10% | Completion of Future Income |
10% | Selection of an Education Goal |
10% | Selection of FAFSA completion status (Yes or No) |
10% | Identification of an Education Program of Interest |
10% | Identification of a School of Interest |
10% | Listing a potential Future Course |
10% | Identification of Work-Based Learning Activities |
------------ | |
100% |
Some of the items in the Career Development Plan aren’t relevant to me right now. Why is the FASFA and Work-Based Learning important to the Career Builder completeness score?
The CDP Builder was designed to help schools and students meet the state’s CDP requirements and be usable for all career planners. To reach 100%, students may check the either the “Yes” or “No” box for the FASFA. The goal of this is to increase awareness of the Free Application for Federal Student Financial Aid (FAFSA) and its role in helping students qualify for postsecondary financial aid. Each local district can decide which items matter and what competition gauge level is sufficient.
How can I share my career development plan with parents, teachers, or others?
When viewing your career development plan, there are three icons in the top right of the screen.
The first icon allows you to send an email to any address with a unique URL to view your CDP. The second option copies the URL and allows you to paste it in an email, text message, or any other place you wish to share. The third option allows you to print the file or save it as a PDF.
Will my career development plan be accessible once I graduate or leave school?
Yes, if you establish a CFNC account. NCEdCloud accounts expire or can be terminated if you leave public education. A CFNC log-in can be accessed as long as you maintain the account.
How can I save out-of-state colleges or are only those in North Carolina available?
The Education section of the CDP builder allows students to save out-of-state colleges. Typing the name of a school in the "School Interests" box will bring up a list of all public and private US colleges and universities for the user to select from.
